On June 24 2021, we organized an online webinar to share what we learned in our research project about scaling inclusive business models collaboratively in base-of-the-pyramid (BoP) contexts with a diverse audience of inclusive business representatives, students and others interested.

The webinar was opened by André Nijhof (Nyenrode Business University) who introduced our project, officially called “Action Repertoire for Distributed Business Models in Inclusive Business Value Chains”, and its partners: BoP Innovation Center, Nyenrode Business University, The Next Organization, TNO, University of Twente and NWO.

Then, Tamara Oukes (University of Twente) presented a review of the scientific literature on collaborative business models in BoP contexts. She revealed the five lessons learned on the conceptualization, process and impact of collaborative business models as well as the collaborative and native capabilities needed to make them successful.

The presentation of Milou Derks (TNO) entailed the five-step framework that the project developed to support inclusive businesses in BoP contexts in scaling collaboratively. She explained the strong theoretical basis of the framework, but also its extensive validation through workshops with six cases in Sub-Saharan Africa and South-East Asia.

This was followed by a presentation from Mathilde Miedema (TNO). Based on her experiences, she told about the value of the project for her organization TNO as well as the benefits of the framework for inclusive business consortia using the example of the Flying Food Consortium.

The session was closed by Ariane von Raesfeld Meijer (University of Twente) and Steije Renes (The Next Organization) who gave an outlook to the future. In the next half year, they will be developing an interactive platform to further share our framework with inclusive businesses, NGOs, consultancies, scholars and many more.
